About

The City of Helsinki's wood-heated shore sauna sits on the south side of Länsi-Pihlajasaari, a ten-minute water bus from Merisatama or Ruoholahti. One group books it at a time for a three-hour slot, up to seven people, and heats it themselves with the firewood provided. The sea is a few steps from the door.

Good to know

  • Set in nature, away from the city, so bring a car or plan the transfer in advance.
  • Right on the sea: expect saltwater dips between rounds, cold even in summer.
  • Set up outdoors: weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
  • Bookable as a private session: rent the room for your group rather than sharing with strangers.
  • Wood-fired heat: softer, heavier löyly than electric, and the smell of the stove is part of the room.

Hours

  • Hours not listed

Summer season only. The sauna is sold as timed slots through the city's Varaamo booking service, Tuesday to Sunday, published each spring (2026 season advertised as 30 May - 30 August); the island's water bus runs only in season.
