Frequently asked questions

What is Sauna Discovery?

Sauna Discovery is a curated atlas of the world's best saunas, hand-picked and written by our editors. It spans traditional Finnish saunas, wood-fired barrels, public bathhouses, and private sessions with genuine character.

How are saunas chosen?

Every venue is vetted against our editorial standards: we weigh the quality of the heat, the setting, community feel, cold-plunge and open-water access, and price. Dedicated sauna experiences make the cut; gym amenities and hotel add-ons don't.

How is Sauna Discovery different from general review sites?

Rankings on general review platforms mix dedicated saunas in with gyms, spas, and hotel facilities, so the best independent venues get buried. Sauna Discovery lists standalone sauna experiences only, and every description is researched and written by an editor.

Which cities and countries does Sauna Discovery cover?

The atlas currently spans 1140 saunas across 720 cities in 21 countries, and coverage grows as our editors research new scenes.

Is Sauna Discovery free to use?

Yes, every city guide, collection, and sauna profile is free to read. The companion iOS app, Ember, is free to download, and adds nearby search and stamps for the saunas you visit.
