Saunasaari

About

Two traditional smoke saunas on the northern tip of Vasikkasaari, with the Helsinki skyline across the water. Sea swimming and a hot tub sit beside them, and the RÖK summer kitchen cooks over open fire and smoke. A boat runs out from the Market Square on summer weekends, and the island is also let for private events.

Good to know

• Right on the sea: expect saltwater dips between rounds, cold even in summer.
• Set up outdoors: weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
• Set in nature, away from the city, so bring a car or plan the transfer in advance.
• Hot tub on site: adds a warm-water option between the sauna and the cold plunge for a longer cycle.
• Restaurant on site, so long sessions are the design. Food is part of the visit rather than a stop on the way home.
• Wood-fired heat: softer, heavier löyly than electric, and the smell of the stove is part of the room.

Summer season only and by advance booking - the site says the ferry runs on summer weekends, and the booking calendar's dates run late June to 29 August. The evening starts at 17:00 from Kauppatori (Laituri 5) and the return boat leaves the island at 21:00; the 15 and 29 August dates run 16:00-20:30. The island is otherwise hired for private events.
