About
A working farm in the Haanja hills of Old Võromaa and one of the keepers of the UNESCO-listed Estonian smoke-sauna tradition, where master Eda Veeroja leads the ritual. A session runs at least three hours: the chimneyless sauna heated slowly over a day, whisking with birch, cooling in the pond, and the customs that go with it. Booking is by arrangement only and the sauna takes up to eight — this is the ceremony, not a quick sweat.
Good to know
- Wood-fired heat — softer, heavier löyly than electric, and the smell of the stove is part of the room.
- Set up outdoors — weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
- Set in nature, away from the city — bring a car or plan the transfer in advance.
- A historic sauna with heritage worth the trip on its own — the building, the tradition, or both.
- Cold plunge available on site — use it between rounds for the classic contrast cycle.
Hours
By advance booking only — sessions about 3 hours
