About
A working farm in the Haanja hills of Old Võromaa, keeping the UNESCO-listed Estonian smoke-sauna tradition. Master Eda Veeroja leads a ritual of at least three hours: the chimneyless sauna heated slowly over a day, whisking with birch, cooling in the pond. Booking is by arrangement only; this is the ceremony, not a quick sweat.
Good to know
- Wood-fired heat: softer, heavier löyly than electric, and the smell of the stove is part of the room.
- Set up outdoors: weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
- Set in nature, away from the city, so bring a car or plan the transfer in advance.
- A historic sauna with heritage worth the trip on its own, whether the building, the tradition, or both.
- Cold plunge available on site: use it between rounds for the classic contrast cycle.
