About
Tanto Bastu is a wood-fired sauna on a raft moored at the Tantolunden shore on Södermalm. A Stockholm association runs it, and non-members bathe during set public sessions hosted by a volunteer member. Twelve people fit inside, and bathers dip straight off the raft into Årstaviken.
Good to know
- Wood-fired heat: softer, heavier löyly than electric, and the smell of the stove is part of the room.
- Direct lake access: most visitors plunge straight into the water between sauna rounds.
- Set up outdoors: weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
