About
An eight-person wood-fired barrel sauna on the banks of the Kawarau River outside Queenstown, run as a small community since 2020. Rounds alternate with a river plunge or an ice bath, then a rest by the bonfire or in a heated marquee. Community sessions are open to anyone, and facilitated private sessions take groups of up to sixteen.
Good to know
- Wood-fired heat: softer, heavier löyly than electric, and the smell of the stove is part of the room.
- Cold plunge available on site: use it between rounds for the classic contrast cycle.
- On a river: the cold side of the cycle comes from open running water rather than a tub.
- Set up outdoors: weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
- Set in nature, away from the city, so bring a car or plan the transfer in advance.
- Mountain setting: elevation changes and views are part of what you're paying for.
- Bookable as a private session: rent the room for your group rather than sharing with strangers.
