A single wood-fired barrel sauna for 8 on the Portobello Beach promenade, with the North Sea a few steps away. Community sessions are around £13 a head; private hire gets you the whole barrel for your group. The simplicity is the point — sand, sea, heat.

• Set up outdoors — weather is part of the experience, so dress for the walk between cabin and water.
